Wisconsin Hockey Officials Association

The WHOA manages the registration, training, mentoring and assignment of officials across Wisconsin in partnership with USA Hockey and WAHA.

Becoming an Official

Officials must be at least 12 years old, register with USA Hockey and complete the appropriate level seminar, open book and on-ice session for the season.

Levels

Level 1 — entry level, ages 12+
Level 2 — intermediate
Level 3 — advanced
Level 4 — top tier, by invitation

Mentor Program

New officials are paired with experienced mentors who provide in-game support and ongoing feedback throughout the season.

Officials Compensation

Officials are paid per game, with rates determined by level and age group. A great way to stay involved in the game and earn while you learn.
